Student Internship Program

Our non-paid internships offer college students an opportunity to observe and work in all divisions of the Alexandria Police Department. The objective of the program is to provide a well-rounded experiential learning program that provides opportunities to assess police progression firsthand. We hope to provide students with an opportunity to be actual participants and observe the day-to-day operations of a law enforcement agency. As part of the internship program participant's experiences may include:

Juvenile Investigations
Adult Investigations
Crime Scene Unit activities
Traffic Enforcement
Patrol
Communications
Records
Special Investigations (Vice and Narcotics)

Eligibility Requirements:

Must be a high school graduate and currently attending college as a junior or senior
Shall possess a valid driver’s license
Shall be in good standing with the sponsored university
Shall be at least 18 years of age and sponsored by an accredited university
Shall be drug-free and have no convictions of driving under the influence of drugs
Shall not have a conviction for operating a vehicle while intoxicated (DUI), or operating a vehicle with a blood alcohol content in excess of the legal limit as set by state law
Shall have no felony convictions
Shall have no convictions for any misdemeanor (The Chief will make decision on certain misdemeanors)
Shall have not received other than an honorable discharge from the military or other discharge with honorable conditions
