Student Internship Program
Our non-paid internships offer college students an opportunity to observe and work in all divisions of the Alexandria Police Department. The objective of the program is to provide a well-rounded experiential learning program that provides opportunities to assess police progression firsthand. We hope to provide students with an opportunity to be actual participants and observe the day-to-day operations of a law enforcement agency. As part of the internship program participant's experiences may include:
- Juvenile Investigations
- Adult Investigations
- Crime Scene Unit activities
- Traffic Enforcement
- Patrol
- Communications
- Records
- Special Investigations (Vice and Narcotics)
Eligibility Requirements:
- Must be a high school graduate and currently attending college as a junior or senior
- Shall possess a valid driver’s license
- Shall be in good standing with the sponsored university
- Shall be at least 18 years of age and sponsored by an accredited university
- Shall be drug-free and have no convictions of driving under the influence of drugs
- Shall not have a conviction for operating a vehicle while intoxicated (DUI), or operating a vehicle with a blood alcohol content in excess of the legal limit as set by state law
- Shall have no felony convictions
- Shall have no convictions for any misdemeanor (The Chief will make decision on certain misdemeanors)
- Shall have not received other than an honorable discharge from the military or other discharge with honorable conditions
